TUGMASTER DRIVER (IMV) - LEVEL 1

A 2-day course combining practical hands-on training with classroom based learning. Ideal for new and recently recruited drivers operating in the ports industry.

Level 1 – Novice Tugmaster Driver Course

Duration
Two days of classroom based and practical hands-on training including structured use of the simulator to learn, experience, reinforce and support teaching activities and assessment.

 £390 per person + VAT (subject to minimum course numbers)

Who Should Attend?
This course is aimed primarily at new and recent recruits to the ports industry whose role includes operation of IMV Tugmasters within the port environment.

This course is also suitable for re-training and refresher training and development of existing IMV drivers in ports or related industry.

Learning Outcomes
The Novice Level course aims to equip trainees with a basic foundation for IMV Tugmaster operation including familiarisation with controls and manoeuvres using practical, simulator based exercises, procedures and terminology and health and safety legislation.  It also assesses aptitude and can be used to identify development routes for trainees.

Course Objectives
This two day course is designed to provide a solid foundation for new or recent IMV Tugmaster drivers working within the port environment.

Further develop and hone skills of existing drivers to aid them to work more safely and productively.

Extensive use of simulator based exercises assists trainees to master basic procedures and operational manoeuvres in a safe, controlled environment, prior to training on ‘live’ equipment.

Course Outline
Key subject areas covered across the two days include:
• Introduction to IMV simulator, basic principles, start up procedures and pre-shift and control identification /function
• IMV operation exercises
• Use of correct PPE
• Principles behind pre-service checks
• Practical using pre-service forms.
• Health and Safety legislation and requirements, ie Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASAWA),  the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER ), Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)
• H&S legislation/requirements test (compulsory requirement before progressing to plant operation)

Assessment

The simulator based training and assessment exercises produce an auditable electronic assessment record of the trainee’s performance including
• Accuracy of operation
• Near misses

Progression
Trainees who have completed the IMV Tugmaster Novice Course will gain an appreciation of the skills and discipline required to operate this type of specialist machinery within a ports environment, which will provide them with a solid foundation from which to progress. The simulator course is an invaluable tool by which to increase operator confidence before progressing to real-time training on live equipment.
